Having a business with no processes is a big risk that may cost you revenue and growth in the long term.

Your business is a collection of systems & processes.  These processes lays out the exact actions that your team must perform in order to attain a specific goal with consistent results.

Each process you create becomes the backbone of your organization, allowing you to streamline and ensure your resources are used efficiently.

Indeed, without processes, your business is missing the foundational elements that makes the whole organization run smoothly.

Unfortunately, having processes in place is not an automatic win. You still need a team that is able to use them correctly.

So, as a business owner, how do you get started to create effective processes?

1. Know your goals

Identify the purpose of this process and how will it benefit the company are some questions you might want to answer before jumping into a process. To know what do you want out of this is key for you to plan an effective process.

2. Make a process map and plan out your steps

Without a clear structure your process will collapse. Like everything else in business, you need to make sure that all aspects and tasks are well defined.  Having a process map allows you to have a visual representation of the steps in your process.

3. Assigns tasks to your team

Your team must have a clear understading of the tasks that need to be completed in order for your process to work. Reviewing each process with your team. Another benefit of documenting the process is that you get clear insight into the required skill set needed to execute the process.

4. Test

Test your process out. This is the most important step in process creation. You will find out if there are any mistakes or any improvements required to complete the process so that it achieves the goals.

5. Execute & monitor

If everything is set in place and the process passed the test, then it is time for you to implement it! Don’t forget to monitor and analyze the results as well: small mistakes can cost you resources, time, and money.

Processes are important because they reduce risks, increasing automation with higher efficiency and productivity. Most of the time, they are easy to follow and they improve team collaboration as well.

Your team is crucial in the process: without them, no process can be up and running.

That is why it is important to get your team to use them effectively.

Start by:

  • Make sure that everyone has a clear understanding of their role in the process
  • Building a flowchart to have a visual representation of what the process is
  • Asking questions and addressing concerns to make sure everyone on the team is on the same page
  • Don’t overly complicate the process by assigning too many tasks to team members
